Holicarspain would
like to make some recommendations and suggestions that will ensure your
car rental and time in Andalucia, South Spain is enjoyable and relaxing.
All our rent a cars
in Holicarspain have undergone a thorough service procedure
Our recommendations
Before you depart, check that the
rental has the following spare parts:
Spare tyre with the correct pressure and the tools to change it.
Spare lights and the tools to change them.
Reflective waistcoat.
Two breakdown warning triangles.
A road map, that should always be kept in the glove compartment.
For your reassurance, make a quick check as to the mechanical state of the car and in particular the brakes.
Check the functioning of the lights.
Try to obtain some weather information before starting a trip, in case of some bad weather conditions approaching.
If the weather conditions are not good, it may be worth delaying the trip until conditions improve.
Winter
The 3 V's rule = Visibility (V) = Velocity (V) = Vehicle in Front (V).
The Visibility (50 metres) = Velocity (50 Km/h) = Vehicle in Front (50 metres).
Turn on the dipped headlights and the rear fog lamp ( Essential rule 'see well and be seen').
Reduce speed slowly, maintain a reduced speed and keep the minimum safety distance car from the car in front.
Do not brake forcefully, to avoid skidding.
Bear in mind it takes longer to stop in the wet, so the minimum safety distance car from the car in front should be increased.
Avoid unnecessary acceleration, deceleration and also overtaking.
Be aware of the behaviour of other vehicles as it may indicate some importance.
If visibility is impaired, immediately turn on the emergency lights, headlights and fog lamps.
If you are planning to travel on roads with snow or ice, do not forget to take the safety chains or the special gloves required to fix them.
Make sure the fuel tank is full.
Have warm clothes and a mobile phone with you.
Summer
Summer is the time
when the roads are busiest here in Andalucia, Southern Spain, with a
lot of people from other countries or cities who may not be familiar
with the roads of the Costa del Sol, road systems, traffic lights. etc.
It may be wise to take the following precautions.
Try to avoid the 1st, 15th and 31st of July and August as there is a huge increase of traffic during these dates.
Wear comfortable and cool clothes and shoes. Use sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sunlight and avoid glare.
Long trips
Get some information before starting the trip, in case of poor weather or any other conditions that impede your journey.
When renting the car, think beforehand about the number of passengers and luggage space you will need.
Make sure you have a full fuel tank and keep re-filling it every 100km.
Take some warm clothes (in Winter) and a mobile phone with you.
Make sure fresh air is always circulating inside the car.
Listen to the radio or some music.
It is recommended to stop every 2 hours or whenever you feel tired or sleepy.
You are only allowed to speak on the mobile while driving if you have a 'hands free' system. You may be fined if you don't.
Travelling with children
We have to be aware of the safety requirements in relation to children and it is our responsibility as adults to make sure they are safe.
A very important point is to consider the weight and age.
Babies have to travel on a safety car seat, that has to be safely secured on the back seat, preferably in the centre and facing the rear of the car.
Children of about 15 Kg. or more should sit on the back seat with the seatbelt on.
Children older than 10 years may travel in the front seat with the seatbelt on.
You should avoid travelling with dangerous objects in the interior of the car.
It is compulsory to wear the seatbelt at all times, short or long trips.
It is also advisable that before starting a long trip with children, to explain to them they will have to be calm and not play or fight whilst the car is in motion.
